             S.L.S. D.A.V. PUBLIC SCHOOL - A Brief Profile

Smt. Swarn Lata Sethi D.A.V.Public School (Sr. Secondary) under the aegis of D.A.V. College Managing Committee, Chitra Gupta Road, New Delhi-110055 started in the year 1990 as a preparatory school in a rented accommodation. Gradually and steadily it became Primary school and then the school got its recognition for middle classes in the year 1995 by Directorate of Education, Govt. of N.C.T. of Delhi. This 2009-10 is the nineteenth running year of the school. The school was upgraded to class X in the year 1997 and affiliated by C.B.S.E. in the year 1997. With a good team work and tireless efforts of the Principal, the school attained the Senior Secondary status in the year 1998-99.  

At present the school is a full fledged and well-equipped Senior Secondary School with an overall strength of around 2800 students in the session 2009 - 2010. The School is running four schemes of academics at plus 2 level viz. Science [Medical/Non – Medical (Computer Science/Biotechnology)] with Psychology also as one of the elective subjects, Commerce (Mathematics/I.P.) and I.T. Applications (Vocational) with Fashion Studies. Also from the session 2007-08, another upcoming Vocational stream of “Financial Market Management” has been introduced in the school which shall entitle the students to enter into the Corporate World confidently and they shall be able to manage the Financial Markets brilliantly. The School results and especially Board class results have improved qualitatively over the years since its first batch of class X in the year 1997-98 and class XII in the year 1999-2000. Current session 2009-2010 is the thirteenth running batch for class X and eleventh for class XII.

Besides these new technology based learning techniques, the school also carries out classes for foreign languages like French which helps in developing the confidence of our students in facing the world. The students of our school are very competent in French language usage and they have been presenting world class proficiency programmes giving the flavour of French Millieu.

  The renovated new building is well equipped with all the ultra modern facilities for staff and students to facilitate a congenial and resourceful atmosphere for attaining

excellence. Having the “State of Art - Biotechnology, Fashion Studies and Mathematics Lab" apart from other pure Science labs and separate Junior and Senior Computer Labs, we take pride in sharing and delivering the best in East Delhi.  

We are proud to have an ultra modern Conference Hall installed with a complete Home Theatre System and a large wall mounted projection screen with a seating capacity of more than 80 persons, and a highly equipped Library that acts a resource room for students and teachers alike. Not only academics, the co-curricular activities have always been given due recognition in the School to enrich student's experiences and develop multifaceted personalities.  

Another milestone achieved is the Robotics Laboratory which was inaugurated on the occasion of ANVESHAN-2007 on December, 11, 2007 by Shri Shashi Bhushan, HOD, EDUSAT and Smt. Sheetal Sharma, Director, PS-I, DAV College Managing Committee. This Robotics Education Programme will help the students to start thinking in new ways and explore new vistas. Our deserving students have won many laurels in various Competitions in Robotics. 

Since the inception of the school, it has been very active in participating in various activities and winning laurels at Zonal, Inter-Zonal, State and National levels and we are not behind in Sports and Martial Arts also.

  Technology Aided Learning is being emphasized for years now and we are happy to mention that our 100% staff is computer savvy and we have computerized Accounts, Fees, Library and Result status. We are also actively imparting education to our students through various computer aided learning techniques like PowerPoint presentations, around 700 3-D Graphics and Animated Bharatiyavidya modules, for teaching and learning of Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, EVS and Social Sciences and also on-line teaching modules for all subjects from class III to XII. Equipments like Laptops, LCD Projectors, with wall-mounted Screens, Electronic e-Beam Magnetic Board, and Scantron for assessing OMR Sheets facilitate better learning situations and atmosphere. The school is proud to be associated with ventures like CII-Shiksha, ORACLE Think.com and Balvidya projects that aim at developing the individual ability of each child through features like open source software utilization, on-line teaching and adaptive learning techniques.

Ashok Ganguly which has enabled parents to have an access to a window, always opened in order to see any latest information regarding the school activities and circulars. .Not only the web-site, the school has adopted a better Communication alternative through SMS and e-mails and has created the on-line profile of students on-line.   

The school has proudly attained the distinction of becoming one of the few schools in East Delhi to be ISO Certified in the year 2006 and is still maintaining the high standards of ISO 9001:2008.

  “Catch them young”, so do we to inculcate all human values and love for mankind, environment and scientific temper of learning. School conducts sensitizing sessions for parents of each class to orient parents, briefing them our teaching techniques, approach to syllabus, our infrastructure and the follow up expected by us for a perfect co-ordination to bridge all the gaps between school and them.

  The school covers all vital events in its school magazine “Pranjal”. The school publishes “Le journal d’ Expressions” periodically for short time coverage which is time bound. Apart from this “Priyamvada” is annual calendar of school credit system, Activity calendar and all information for the forthcoming session. “Vandita” is annual result special to give comprehensive performance of one session at a glance

  We focus more and more on humane approach and providing the very best to our progeny. We also have a mission to protect environment and we sensitize our students for all contemporary human and environmental issues by making them visit old homes, SOS villages, collecting clothes, food and essentials for poorest of poor and to get it distributed by children themselves. This makes them more human and sensitive towards society. They had been visiting schools like “Tamanna” and other similar institutions to make them understand that how children with minimum capacity can create wonders on this earth to make it a beautiful place. So they owe much more to society.

  The Eco-Club of the School plants trees in the school campus and in neighbouring areas. Also they are given responsibility of looking after the growth of trees and to make it at least one year old. Our students are working regularly on vermi-compost pits and are creating manure by disposable garbage of school. They also develop eco-friendly products. 

The school has Scouts and Guides wing and students have visited many countries to attend international camps apart from State and National camps. Principal Vandana Kapoor is at present heading the committee responsible for hosting and extending hospitality to all the international guests and delegates of Scouts and Guides movement. Students, teachers and Principal apart from almost all State and National camps, have attended Jamboories of SAARC countries, Asia Pacific regional and International meets at Nepal, Bhutan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, U.S.A., etc. The Principal has been awarded with the most coveted ‘SILVER STAR AWARD’ for the year 2007-08.

  The school has all indoor and outdoor sports facilities available at campus and sports complex outside. The school has its own facility of Judo-Karate and Taekwando training apart from Yoga, Pranayam and Aerobics. The school feels proud to have  specialized “Billiards Room” and two separate “Table Tennis Rooms” with four T.T. tables to encourage and promote indoor games as well as provide a means of recreation.  

School is having Annual events in competitive category for in house as well as interschool events. A few to name are “ Anveshan” for science, “E-Com Funda” for commerce, “Les Dessinateurs”-The Fashion Event, and Parishkrit, for I.T.department . The school has Annual events for personal and career counseling, under aegis of “ Disha” - for students and “Pradyotnam” - for teachers and non-teaching staff for career supportive programmes, communication skills and “stress-management programmes”.  

Similarly for language enhancement programmes we have Annual events like “Expressions”- for English language, “Strotasvini” – for Hindi language and “Bhavanjali” for Sanskrit department, “Le Meilleur Dialogue” and “La civilization Francaise” are French language annual events while Social Science department organizes “Heritage” and Mathematics Department hosts “Octave”.  

          It is needless to say that our computer faculty is the life-line behind these activities since Computer Department creates that aura of sophistication and grandeur to all our activities of students, teachers and for our administrative department’s automation as well as executive presentations. Ample exposure and opportunity is provided to students while they work in their respective Computer Labs: two exclusive labs for Seniors and one separately for Juniors. Not only the computer labs but each nursery classroom, all staff rooms and also all the other labs are well equipped with a separate computer with internet facility.  

Seeing one’s school performance is seeing your own baby grow into adolescence. It give us contentment that here we are able to develop an institution where around two thousand eight hundred students are not only getting quality education but an all round grooming of their mind, body and soul. We assure that the dedicated teaching and non-teaching team of school family will keep on serving for this great noble cause of education today and tomorrow with utmost sensitivity and with a futuristic vision.
